Privacy Policy — Common Sense Quarterly

Last Updated: February 18, 2026

Common Sense Quarterly (commonsensequarterly.com) is operated by Liberty's Principles Media LLC. This page supplements our Ecosystem Privacy Policy with information specific to this platform.

1. Data We Collect by User Role

Operators (Edition Managers)

  • Account information (name, email, password via Supabase Auth)
  • Stripe Connect account data (for receiving payouts)
  • Edition details (ZIP codes, household counts, pricing)
  • EDDM mailing proof uploads (stored in Supabase Storage)
  • Subscription billing information (processed by Stripe)

Sponsors (Local Businesses)

  • Business information (name, phone, website, tagline) — note: this information is displayed publicly on printed postcards and digital landing pages
  • Payment information (processed by Stripe on behalf of the operator)
  • Landing page content you create
  • QR code scan and conversion analytics associated with your spots

Readers (Postcard Recipients)

  • QR code scans are tracked anonymously (no personal information collected)
  • Digital hub visits are tracked for aggregate analytics only

2. Stripe Connect & Payment Data

CSQ uses Stripe Connect to facilitate payments between sponsors and operators. This is a three-party payment relationship:

  • Platform: Common Sense Quarterly (LPM) provides the technology platform
  • Operators: Connect their own Stripe accounts to receive payouts from sponsor purchases
  • Sponsors: Purchase ad spots; payment is processed by Stripe on behalf of the operator

When a sponsor purchases a spot, funds are authorized but not immediately charged (delayed capture). Funds are captured only when the operator locks the edition for printing. Both LPM and the operator may access transaction data necessary for fulfillment.

Payment data is handled directly by Stripe and is subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy and Stripe Connected Account Agreement.

3. Civic Content Production

CSQ produces localized civic education content for each edition using AI-assisted research tools, including articles about founding principles, local government information, community calendars, and civic action items. All content is lawyer-reviewed before publication.

  • Input data: ZIP codes and publicly available civic data
  • No personal information is used in civic content production
  • Editorial review: All civic content undergoes lawyer review and editorial oversight before publication
  • Accuracy: Civic information (officials, meeting schedules) may become outdated. Always verify with your local government offices.

4. Data Storage & Security

  • Database: Supabase (PostgreSQL) with Row-Level Security (RLS) policies
  • File storage: Supabase Storage (PDF exports, proof uploads)
  • Authentication: Supabase Auth with encrypted sessions
  • API security: Rate limiting, Zod input validation, CRON_SECRET for automated tasks
  • Stripe webhook verification: Cryptographic signature verification on all payment events

5. Data Retention

  • Editions and spot data: Retained for the active life of the edition plus 2 years
  • Payment records: 7 years (tax/financial regulations)
  • Analytics data: Aggregated; individual scan events retained for 2 years
  • Expired editions: Editions with no spots sold are expired after 90 days by automated process
